The Great Siege 1224″ Read-through event

08 Mar, 19:30 at The Place Theatre on Bradgate Road.

The BDC are excited to be supporting this exciting new outdoor production. Join our very own Dawn Allen (Director of One For The Road) on March 8th at The Place Theatre 7.30pm to hear how you can participate in a brand new play (with songs) written by Rob Parker to commemorate a pivotal moment in Bedford’s history.

14th August 2024 is 800 years since 16 year old King Henry III reclaimed Bedford Castle from Baron Falkes de Breaute by force. Thousands of soldiers with siege engines, engineers, miners and other workers descended on Bedford from all over the country. At the end of the 8 week siege, Henry destroyed the Castle and determined that there would never be another fortification on the site. Think; Bedford’s version of ‘Les Miserables’ (but not as long).

This captivating story will be an outdoor production with 4 performances on Castle Mound over the August Bank Holiday weekend (Saturday and Sunday Aug 24/25).

Bedfordians will know why Bedford Castle ceased to exist and how!

We have been pledged a good chunk of the funding by Bedford Borough Council, dependent on the outcome of other pending bids.

Please come along to this read through, and show your support and enthusiasm for this venture! It’s a unique opportunity to commemorate this momentous event and spread the story of Bedford’s amazing history. We are looking for an entire company, actors, singers, musicians plus all technical theatre elements.
